My son is taking time out of making new Pokemon characters to take part in his very first school performance. Tonight he'll be singing Yankee Doodle and a song from the Sound of Music - he didn't pick the songs, folks.
You hear people say that kids grow up so fast, and it is so true - it seems like just yesterday that he was learning to walk and talk. Now he's a little man explaining things to his father, singing songs and telling me about some strange species of frog in Australia.
But i'm not sad about that - i'm just enjoying the journey and doing my best to make sure that he doesn't have too much to complain about if he's ever in therapy. Here's the words for Yankee Doodle (and an explanation on the whole Macaroni thing here):
Yankee Doodle went to town
A-riding on a pony

Yankee Doodle went to town
A-riding on a pony
Stuck a feather in his hat
And called it macaroni.
Yankee Doodle, keep it up
Yankee Doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step
And with the girls be handy.
Father and I went down to camp
Along with Captain Gooding
And there we saw the men and boys
As thick as hasty pudding.
Yankee Doodle, keep it up
Yankee Doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step
And with the girls be handy
There was Captain Washington
Upon a slapping stallion
A-giving orders to his men
I guess there was a million.
Yankee Doodle, keep it up
Yankee Doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step
And with the girls be handy.
And called it macaroni.
