Recently I bought three role-playing games that i'd been meaning to pick up.. well since forever!
I bought Neverwinter Nights 2 and Gothic II Gold from Gamers Gate and I picked up Arx Fatalis from Steam.
Right now I feel a bit ripped off by NWN 2. I mean, I understand the appeal, but I wanted Neverwinter Nights, not Baldur's Gate III. And that's what it feels like to me. I hate the fact that It is not optional to have companions - and even in Baldur's Gate you could get rid of them most of the time. I understand fans wanted this, but I am not one of those fans.. It's like I order pie and got cake. Also it feels like they barekly put any polish on this game - is this using the same engine as before? Probably a hybrid tech based on it, but give me a break. Why doesn't this game look at least as good as The Witcher?
Gothic II is an awesome game but the Gamer's Gate version crashes every time I get into any kind of dialogue tree. I am hoping that tech support can help me out with this because it's a decent game.
But the biggest shock of this trio is Arx Fatalis. This addmittedly unpolish RPG from Arkane is nonetheless a lot of fun - and at right around 10.00 it's worth buying on Steam.
These are all early impressions - and i'm sure that NWN 2 gets better down the road, so...

My gosh - I would love Baldurs Gate 3. But I'm guessing that the system doesn't allow for the same strategic combat that BG2 did. I never really liked NWN so much, although I did spend a solid year creating a game module for it.
I might have to look up Arx Fatalkis though. Sounds intriguing.
